GOING: GOOD

BP = at the time of writing but for the best current odds go to www.BritOdds.com (Click on link above)

£30,000 Coral Sprint Trophy (Handicap) (C1) (3yo+, 0-100), 6f

1) (1) 8227 Talbot Avenue Mick Mullineaux 6-9-04 Kieren Fallon
Respectable efforts in Group company this season and is far from out of this of this despite his big weight, though five furlongs rather than this six seems to be his trip. BP = 20/1

2) (3) 0026 Fantasy Believer John Quinn 6-9-02 Tony Hamilton(3)
Excellent effort when second in Ayr Gold Cup on penultimate start and again at Ripon last time. May be too high in the handicap now. BP = 16/1

3) (12) 0350 Tom Tun John Balding 9-9-01b Terry Lucas
Fair effort last time out in Ayr Gold Cup and runs well at York, although he has yet to win off a mark of beyond 93 - he is on 97. BP = 28/1

4) (19) 8001 Pic Up Sticks Mick Channon 5-9-01 Tony Culhane
Finally came good at Ripon last time on fast ground after several good efforts this season - up 4lb for that and may struggle here. BP = 9/1

5) (14) 8013 Jonny Ebeneezer David Flood 5-9-00eb Frankie Dettori
Goes particularly well with a bit of cut in the ground and is racing off his highest-ever mark - has also had a very long season. BP = 10/1

6) (20) 1078 Zilch Michael Bell 6-8-13 Richard Mullen
Good efforts on last two starts at Windsor and Ayr and will appreciate the better ground here but may still be too high in the handicap. BP = 25/1

7) (7) 2222 Compton’s Eleven Mick Channon 3-8-13 Sam Hitchcott
Been in good form of late, finishing second on last four starts. Will like the cut in the ground and should be thereabouts but the handicapper keepsputting him up for coming second and he is racing off his highest ever rating. BP = 11/1

8) (6) 4005 Philharmonic Richard Fahey 3-8-12 Paul Hanagan
Signs of a return to form last time and any rain would help. Lightly raced butmay need to drop further in the handicap. BP = 20/1

9) (13) 0995 Bonus William Haggas 4-8-11 Ryan Moore
Hasn’t shown much this season, although was a bit better last time - his first for a new yard. There were excuses then as he was drawn in the dreaded stall one at Beverley and it was over five furlongs not six. Has a chance on his old form, being rated 105 and now is racing off 93. Pricewise has recommended so value has disappeared BP = 14/1

10) (8) 0993 Smart Hostess John Quinn 5-8-10 Robert Winston
Loves fast ground and excellent effort when fourth behind Pic Up Sticks last time, returning to from but she is still high in the handicap. BP = 8/1

11) (17)1800 Cardinal Venture Kevin Ryan 6-8-10 Neil Callan
Ran well when 8th in the Wokingham earlier this season. Ground not really suitable last two outings but is still high in the handicap. BP = 16/1

12) (2) 8000 Connect Mark Tompkins 7-8-08b Philip Robinson
Out of form, too high in the handicap and prefers five furlongs. BP = 50/1

13) (4) 2995 Valjarv Nick Littmoden 3-8-08 Darryll Holland
Rather in and out performer who looks well treated. BP = 25/1

14) (11) 0714 Mine Behind John Best 4-8-06 Martin Dwyer
May be better at five than six but not out of the reckoning. BP = 18/1

15) (18) 0294 Mutawaqed Mikael Magnusson 6-8-06t Eddie Ahern
Has run well all season and is still not badly treated - however his price is short. BP = 15/2

16) (15) 0000 Pomfret Lad David Nicholls 6-8-05 Frannie Norton
Best on fast ground and may be better at seven furlongs in a smaller field but handicapper has given him a chance - dropped 5lb to 87 - his lowest-ever rating. BP = 33/1

17) (9) 0046 Danzig River Barry Hills 3-8-05 Michael Hills
Inconsistent and may need fast ground. BP = 33/1

18) (16) 1004 River Falcon Jim Goldie 4-8-05 Willie Supple
May better at five furlongs but has some chance. BP = 25/1

19) (5) 0514 Partners In Jazz David Barron 3-8-05 Kevin Darley
This is his toughest test and he has it to do. BP = 16/1

20) (10)0828 Marsad John Akehurst 10-8-04 Fran Ferris(3)
Tough old sprinter who likes York and is well-treated in relation to some of these, especially with Fran Ferris claiming 3lb. BP = 22/1

SUMMARY
MARSAD is superb value each-way.

GOOD LUCK

SADLER'S WELLS FILLY TOPS FINAL DAY AT TATTERSALLS OCTOBER YEARLING SALE PART 1

Part 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale concluded on Friday, October 8 in Newmarket, England, with 130 lots sold for 6,425,500 guineas at an average of 49,426 guineas and a median of 40,000 guineas on the day.

This took the four-day sale figures to 512 sold for 52,631,500 guineas, a record for a European yearling sale. The average over the four day sale was 102,795 guineas whilst the median was 70,000 guineas.

Lot 592, the SADLER'S WELLS three parts sister to the recent Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner MAGICAL ROMANCE topped proceeding's on the final day at 420,000 guineas.

Consigned from Timmy Hyde's Camas Park Stud, the daughter of the SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare SHOUK was knocked down to BBA Ireland's Adrian Nicoll after he saw off the efforts of Shadwell Estate's Angus Gold.

SHOUK has proven a shrewd investment, having been purchased by Charlie Gordon-Watson at the 2001 Tattersalls December Mare Sale for 80,000 guineas.

In addition to MAGICAL ROMANCE's Group 1 win, the pedigree had received other major updates this year with SHOUK's half sister PUCE now the dam of Group 2 Lancashire Oaks winner PONGEE as well as the stakes placed PUKKA. Nicoll indicated that the filly was purchased for a long standing client.

Demand for Lot 637, the grey filly by COZZENE out of the NASHWAN mare ALEXANDRINE, befitted her superb pedigree. Consigned from Kirsten Rausing's Staffordstown Stud, ALEXANDRINE is a half sister to Group winners ALLELUIA, LAST SECOND and Listed winner ALOUETTE, herself the dam of multiple Group 1 winners ALBORADA and ALBANOVA.

Another half sister is JUDE, dam of the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner YESTERDAY and Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner QUARTER MOON. Sir Mark Prescott, who has trained most of the family battled hard to add this filly to his stable, but was unable to match the 180,000 guineas bid by Eamonn Reilly of the Curragh Bloodstock Agency . Reilly made the purchase on behalf of Lady O'Reilly's Castlemartin Stud.

At the end of the four day sale the leading vendor was Camas Park Stud who sold 21 yearlings for 4,092,000 guineas whilst the leading buyer was Demi O'Byrne who purchased 24 yearlings for a total of 7,305,000 guineas.

At the conclusion of the 2004 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Part 1, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented: “Having introduced new formats for both Parts 1 and 2 of our October Yearling Sales, it is difficult to make direct comparisons with last year, and of course we have a further 1,300 yearlings to come next week before a truly accurate picture will emerge, but overall it has been a satisfactory transition away from the previous format.

“We always felt that our 2003 Yearling Sales would prove to be hard acts to follow after massive gains in all areas, but over the last four days Part 1 of the October Yearling Sale has produced a European record turnover for a yearling sale.”

“The very top of the market has not matched last year when we sold a record number of seven-figure yearlings but, as ever, smart individuals have not been short of admirers, and the leading buyers in the European market have yet again made a significant impact throughout the week, as have new faces from Japan and Hong Kong.

“Having moved away from the 'select sale' format we would have liked to have seen more trainers involved from the very start of proceedings, but as the week has progressed they have become increasingly active, and Part 2 of the October Yearling Sale, which begins on Monday, has plenty more to offer, as well as the added attraction of the £250,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes attached to the Sale.”

The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Part 2 starts at 11am on Monday, October 11.
