Lingfield Park Racecourse to install an Ice Rink for Winter Season
The newly refurbished Lingfield Park Racecourse has added another dimension to its intensive winter programme.
General Manager Clive Stephens has decided to turn the Surrey course into a ‘Winter Wonderland’ for six weeks around the Christmas period with the addition of a customised undercover ice rink.
The ice rink, sponsored by Smirnoff Ice, will open on Saturday 27th November 2004 for six weeks until 5th January 2005 on both racedays, of which there are 14, and non-racedays, and evenings. Santa with his sleigh and ponies is also due to visit the course on Wednesday 22nd December when Mums accompanying their children will be admitted free.
Kate Hills, Marketing and PR Manager, said, “We intend to have lots of fun this winter at Lingfield. I know some of the jockeys can’t wait to get skating!
“We are marketing the ice rink locally to schools, social, leisure and sports clubs and pubs in the area, we hope this added attraction will bring in lots of new people, looking to do something a little different around Christmas”.
Combined with racing or a party - this is a fun filled opportunity for everyone to enjoy, from complete beginners to experienced skaters. Up to 50 people can use the ice rink at any one time, and it may be pre-booked for private use or parties.

HALLING COLT TOPS THIRD DAY OF TATTERSALLS OCTOBER YEARLING SALE PART 2
A son of HALLING sold for 50,000 guineas, and a further three yearlings made 40,000 guineas on the third day of Part 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale yesterday (Wednesday, October 13).
A total of 184 yearlings were sold for 2,333,900 guineas, at an average of 12,684 guineas and a median of 9,750 guineas. This took receipts for the sale thus far to 11,094,000 guineas at an average of 19,395 guineas for the 572 lots sold.
The fifth lot into the ring in the morning was lot 1342, a chesnut colt by HALLING out of the Listed winning CADEAUX GENEREUX mare RAMBLING ROSE. Consigned from Renee Robeson's Southcourt Stud, the colt saw initial interest from Kern Lillingston Association's Luke Lillingston before Newmarket trainer William Haggas made the winning bid of 50,000 guineas.
The colt's dam RAMBLING ROSE won the Listed Galtres Stakes at York and was also placed in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks. The Darley based HALLING has enjoyed a successful year with the multiple Group 1 placed NORSE DANCER as well as the Listed winning two year old QUEEN OF POLAND representing him this season.
Two of the three lots which sold for 40,000 guineas are set to join trainer Terry Mills at his Loretta Lodge Stables in Epsom. The first, lot 1353, was a colt by INCHINOR out of the winning PRINCE SABO mare SABINA. The colt, consigned from Robert Allcock had recieved a major pedigree update when his ROYAL APPLAUSE half brother TREMAR, trained by Mills, won the Group 3 Prix Eclipse at Chantilly on October 1st. Johnny McKeever, standing alongside trainer Brian Meehan was underbidder. Mills' other 40,000 guineas purchase was the SHINKO FOREST colt consigned from Shanaville Stables. Mills purchased the son of the RAHY mare MARITANA after seeing off the efforts of Lambourn trainer Sylvester Kirk.
The top priced filly for the day was lot 1496, by FANTASTIC LIGHT out of the Group 2 placed FABULOUS DANCER mare FRESHER. Consigned from agent John Troy, the half sister to Group 3 placed ZULEIKA DOBSON saw interest from agent Dick O'Gorman but he was unable to match the 40,000 guineas bid by German bloodstock agent Manfred Hofer. The filly, who is from the first crop of Darley's six time Group 1 winner FANTASTIC LIGHT is set to go into training with the agent's brother, Mario Hofer.
The sale continues today, tomorrow and Saturday.
