MORE MEETINGS THREATENED
This Saturday's fixture at Sandown, the first of the new National Hunt season, is subject to an inspection called for noon on Thursday.
Andrew Cooper, the Clerk of the Course Sstated: "Due to the present conditions and the weather forecast we will hold an inspection at midday on Thursday."
"We are currently unraceable and flooded in one or two places. Half of an inch of rain is forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday and that would finish us off, so we thought we would have an early look.
"It all depends what happens on Wednesday night."
"The going is soft, waterlogged in places on the chase course and heavy, waterlogged in places on the hurdles course.
Tomorrow's meetings at Kempton and Musselburgh are set to go ahead while inspections are planned for Towcester and Windsor on Thursday and Hexham on Friday.
The meeting scheduled for Newton Abbot tomorrow has already been abandoned.
COCHRANE QUITS SADDlE
Ray Cochrane has decided to quit the saddle, after he was told by doctors that another back injury could put him in a wheelchair.
The 43-year-old was injured along with Frankie Dettori in a plane crash earlier this year
The highlights of Cochrane's career include his victory on Kahyasi in the 1988 Derby, the 1986 1,000 Guineas and Oaks on Midway Lady.
Cochrane stated: "Dr Turner explained that my back is severely weakened, and he was really worried that any further impact could see me end up in a wheelchair. He told me he'd be very disturbed if I returned to race-riding.
"I must be sensible and retire, although it's obviously disappointing to end my career in this way."
