EXTRA FIXTURE AT NEWMARKET NEXT TUESDAY

Due to the large number of meetings abandoned because of the wet weather, the British Horseracing Board, with support from the Levy Board, has announced an extra fixture on the July Course at Newmarket next Tuesday, October 31.

There will be a seven-race programme, made up of five two-year-old maiden races and two handicaps. Entries will close at noon on October 26.

CHARITY RACEDAY AT STRATFORD

There will be a charity raceday at Stratford this Thursday, October 26, organised by The Countryside Foundation For Education (CFE) - an educational charity which specialises in "increasing awareness and understanding of the countryside as a living, working environment".

Before racing, a fundraising luncheon and auction sale are scheduled to take place.

Dawn Goodfellow, the CFE's Chief Executive stated: "The Raceday at Stratford has provided us with a wonderful opportunity to raise funds in lovely surroundings. The national press is currently full of stories and issues surrounding the countryside, the decline of rural industries and many problems that farmers are facing. As a charity we are committed to working with children, teachers and members of both the educational and countryside communities to help people gain a better and more accurate understanding of what the countryside is really about. This special event will fund our vital work."

Stephen Lambert, Racecourse Manager and Clerk of the Course added: "The Countryside Foundation for Education does a superb job in increasing the awareness and knowledge of teachers and children about the countryside and rural issues. I have known about the work of the CFE for a number of years and we are delighted to be able to support their fundraising efforts. The day has attracted a great deal of interest already and I very much hope that it will raise several thousand pounds for the Contryside Foundation for Education."

KELSO HOLD CHARITY LUNCH TO RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER UNIT

A Charity Lunch will be held at Kelso on Saturday, October 28 in aid of the "Friends of the Borders General Hospital."

Jennifer Croall, Chairperson of the Friends Committee commented: "This a tremendous way to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause and I do hope that anyone racing on the day will take part in the Silent Auction in the marquee. There are a number of auction items that you wouldn't normally get anywhere else, with the highlight being the opportunity to have lunch in the House of Lords, and also the chance of a free box plus 20 badges at Newbury Racecourse for Tote Gold Trophy Day."

ZARA TO CELEBRATE START OF SEASON AT CHELTENHAM

Zara Phillips, the Princess Royal's 19-year-old daughter, is set to launch the start of the National Hunt season at Cheltenham by making the presentations for the Club 16-24 Novices' Handicap Chase tomorrow, Tuesday, October 24.

This will be Zara's first public appearance since accepting the formal role of Honorary President of Club 16-24 in August.

Zara's duties on the day include judging the best-turned-out horse award and also making the presentations to the winning owner, trainer and jockey in front of the anticipated 7,000-strong crowd after the running of the Club's race which is due off at 2.50pm.

Superceding Cheltenham's Junior Membership earlier this year, Club 16-24 has got off to a flying start, already attracting more than 230 members in just three months.

This is the first of many initiatives aimed at promoting Club 16-24, and two lucky members will have lunch with Zara before helping to judge the best-turned-out horse before the race.

Commenting on the first-ever running of the race, Rebecca Morgan, the Club 16-24 Manager, said: "This chase is the first of many events organised for Club 16-24 and we know of many members planning to be here to support the Club's first official event. Since August, Zara and I have worked very closely together to formulate a programme of events aimed at raising the profile of Club 16-24 and attracting young people to join."

Zara Phillips declared: "The Club's race marks the beginning of my first season as President of Club 16-24. Beck (Rebecca Morgan) and I can't wait to get Club 16-24 events up and running, and the race is just the beginning of some great parties and social events we have got planned. I am really looking forward to making the presentations for the Club's race on the day which starts Cheltenham's season."

FADALKO AND THE OUTBACK WAY POSSIBLES FOR THOMAS PINK GOLD CUP

Fadalko, impressive in landing the Axminster 100 Desert Orchid Pattern Chase at Wincanton on Sunday, is being aimed at next month's Thomas Pink Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

The Cadoudal gelding defeated The Outback Way by 17 lengths, jumping well throughout and running out an easy winner.

Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Robert Ogden, stated that possible early-season targets for Fadalko included the Thomas Pink Gold Cup and also the First National Gold Cup at Ascot, a week later.

Meanwhile The Outback Way, who was conceding 11lb to Fadalko, could return to Cheltenham and attempt to follow-up on his victory in last year's equivalent of the Thomas Pink Gold Cup.

Trainer Venetia Williams said after yesterday's contest: "It was a very solid performance, but he has one or two other options apart from Cheltenham."

TREMALLT MAY ATTEMPT PINK

Tremallt, successful on Saturday in the Charisma Gold Cup at Kempton, may attempt the Thomas Pink Gold Cup on November 11.

Last season the Henbit gelding finished sixth to The Outback Way in the 2m 4f contest, after leading for much of the way.

Slad-based handler Tom George revealed on Sunday that Tremallt could go for the Thomas Pink Gold once again - if he has his favoured soft conditions underfoot - or possibly the Edward Hanmer Chase at Haydock. Tremallt could then return to Kempton for a crack at the Pertemps King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.

MUTAMAM ON COURSE FOR BREEDERS CUP

Mutamam is on course for a crack at the Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs on Saturday week.

The son of Darshaan has been an impressive winner on his last two starts, in the September Stakes at Kempton and Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.

Trainer Alec Stewart, who will be having his first runner at the Breeders' Cup Meeting, stated today "It has been our intention for some time to aim him at the Turf..

"His preparation has gone extremely well and Richard Hills will ride him.

"We'll see how he runs in the Breeders' Cup before deciding what to do next with him."
Mutamam is currently rated an 8-1 chance with Coral for the Breeders' Cup Turf, a race won in the past by the British-trained trio Pebbles (1985), Pilsudski (1996) and Daylami (1999).
