CATTERICK TO INSPECT
Catterick are to hold a precautionary inspection at 7.30am tomorrow.
An inspection took place this afternoon at 2.30pm, with the ground currently described as soft with heavy patches.
John Gundhill, the Clerk of the Course said today: "The worst of the ground is on the bend into the home straight, but we are moving the rails so that the worst of the ground is avoided and we will go on to fresh ground - we would not be able to race without doing that."
"We are doing all we possibly can to save the meeting, but there is rain forecast tonight so we will hold a precautionary inspection in the morning to assess the situation."
DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BONUS FOR CAPEL CURE SHARP SUPREME NOVICES HURDLE SERIES
It was announced today that the Capel Cure Sharp Supreme Novices' Hurdle Series will carry a bonus of up to £56,000 for the connections of any horse that wins one of the five of this season's two mile Novice Hurdle Pattern races, as well as the Capel Cure Sharp Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the National Hunt Festival in March 2001.
This bonus is one of the most attractive on offer in National Hunt racing, offering the winning owner and trainer the opportunity to double their winning prize money from any two races in the Pattern. Total prize money in the Pattern exceeds £185,000.
In January 2000 Capel Cure Sharp, a leading UK private client investment management company, announced its three year sponsorship of the entire two mile Novice Pattern. The Series commences at The Open 2000' meeting at Cheltenham on 10 November 2000. It includes televised races at Ascot, Sandown, Wetherby and Kempton, leading up to the £85,000 Capel Cure Sharp Supreme Novices' Hurdle back at Cheltenham on the opening day of the National Hunt Festival on 13 March 2001.
Capel Cure Sharp's Managing Director, Christopher Moorsom, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer this bonus. This has been jointly funded by us and the five host racecourses. We believe that this is an exciting added incentive for both owners and trainers.
"Following the success of our first National Hunt sponsorship, the Capel Cure Sharp Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last March which was won so brilliantly won by Sausalito Bay, we are thoroughly looking forward to sponsoring our first full Series."
Capel Cure Sharp also launched the highly successful 'Capel Cure Sharp 2yo Bonus Series' in May this year, incorporating seven separate Flat races which were also linked by a bonus scheme. The Final takes place at Newbury on 21 October 2000.

AYR'S FINAL FLAT MEETING OF THE YEAR AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE JUMP START
Ayr Racecourse has enjoyed a successful Flat season, with the Western Meeting last month being the highlight. Despite the Western Meeting taking place during the fuel crisis this year, the attendance on the Saturday, Ladbroke (Ayr) Gold Cup day, was still up by a healthy 5%.
The 2000 Flat season at Ayr closes on Monday and Tuesday, October 9 & 10, and the two-day meeting promises competitive and exciting racing.
The Monday sees a six-race card, with the highlight being the £9,500-added ARRAN CONDITIONS STAKES (4.40pm) over a mile. Last year's renewal went to Island House, who made the trip up to Ayr from the Newmarket yard of Geoff Wragg. Island House has progressed to take three Listed contests this year, including the Doonside Cup at the Western Meeting. The first race is at 2.10pm.
On the Tuesday, the most valuable event on the card is the £10,000-added TOTE QUICK PICK STAKES (3.50pm), the showcase handicap over a mile and five furlongs. Four races that day have been generously sponsored by Murray Johnstone, the MURRAY JOHNSTONE NURSERY STAKES (2.50pm; 1m), the MURRAY JOHNSTONE PRIVATE INVESTORS SELLING STAKES (3.20pm; 1m 1f), the MURRAY INCOME MAIDEN STAKES (4.20pm; 1m 2f) and THE MURRAY JOHNSTON AND PRIVATE EQUITY SPRINT HANDICAP STAKES (4.50pm; 6f).
The first race, off at 2.20pm, is the mile EUROPEAN BREEDERS' FUND LINFERN MAIDEN FILLIES STAKES which was won in 1999 by Clipper who this year ran in the classic, the Vodafone Oaks at Epsom.
After this final Flat meeting, there is still much to look forward to at Ayr during the rest of the year. Ayr's National Hunt season starts with a bang on Saturday and Sunday, November 11 & 12, with fixtures also on December 4 and 26 (Boxing Day).
Bonusprint is sponsoring two races on the Saturday, the £10,000-added BONUSPRINT HANDICAP CHASE over three miles and one furlong, and the £5,000-added DOUBLEPRINT HANDICAP HURDLE over three miles, while the Racing Channel is strongly supporting the next day's card and so is the Sunday Mail.
Richard Pridham, Clerk of the Course and General Manager at Ayr, said: "The Saturday of the Western Meeting last month went extremely well and we are now looking forward to the final Flat meeting on October 9 & 10 and the start to our jump season on the weekend of November 11 & 12."
SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE AT YORK
This Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week are the final three days of racing at York for the 2000 season.
The highlight of Thursday's card is the Sterling Assurance Rated Stakes, while the ladbrokes.co.uk Rated Stakes (Showcase Handicap) is Friday's main attraction. Saturday's main event is the £30,000 Coral Eurobet Sprint Trophy.
The Minster Jaguar Trophy, for the leading trainer at York this season, is currently headed by Sir Michael Stoute who has had eight victories on the Knavesmire so far this season. Meanwhile the Studford Leisure York Jockeys' Championship still look to be wide open with Kevin Darley and Richard Hills both on seven winners, followed by Mick Kinane on six and Pat Eddery on five.
HORS LA LOI III TRANSFERRED TO FANSHAWE
Leading hurdler Hors La Loi III, second to Istabraq in this year's Champion Hurdle, has been transferred from Francois Doumen to Newmarket-based James Fanshawe by his owner Paul Green.
Fanshawe stated of the five-year-old Cyborg gelding: "He arrived last week and he is in good shape. He's had a holiday in Jersey."
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be training him this season."
"The first obvious race for him could be the Bula Hurdle at Cheltenham at the beginning of December but he only arrived last week so we are going to feel our way with him."
Hors La Loi III's biggest success to date came at Cheltenham in 1999, when he landed the Supreme Novices' Hurdle by a hugely impressive 17 lengths. At that time he was trained by Martin Pipe, but later returned to Francois Doumen, his original trainer.
His only success last season came in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton, where he defeated Auetaler by half-a-length. He then went on to finish second in the Champion Hurdle to Istabraq. However, on his final start in the Martell Aintree Hurdle he broke a blood vessel, a problem which had blighted him earlier in the season.
