NINE LIKELY FOR EMIRATES WORLD SERIES SIXTH LEG
An international field of nine is likely to line up at the start of the sixth leg of the Emirates World Series Racing Championship - the Grade One Canadian International at Woodbine Racecourse on Sunday.
The Emirates World Series Racing Championship, sponsored by Emirates, the international airline of the UAE and four times winner of Airline of the Year, takes in the 11 most prestigious thoroughbred races around the globe and is the largest sponsorship in the history of horseracing.
Half the field for the mile and a half turf contest will travel to Canada from Europe, three are based at Woodbine and the other two challengers are trained in America. The home team are headed by the Jim Cheadle-trained Bad River.
The three-year-old son of Ascot Knight had his final workout over six furlongs on the E P Taylor turf course at Woodbine on Sunday evening. Bad River covered the distance in 1:15 under big race jockey Gary Boulanger.
After the work Cheadle said, "The work went very well, the turf was a bit soggy, but it was still a nice work. Gary was very happy with him, he did everything we wanted him to do. He cooled out well and seems to be right on cue for the big race."
Bad River, who has won two of his career starts, will be joined in the race by fellow Canadian challengers - the Queen's Plate runner-up, I And I, trained by Wellesley Clayton and the Mike Doyle-trained Dawson's Legacy, who finished seventh in the Canadian International a year ago.
Lycitus, now trained by Darrell Vienna in California, will be having his first start in North America on Sunday. Previously trained in France by Francois Doumen, the son of Lycius won the Group Three Prix de Lys in June and finished fifth on his last start behind the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sinndar in the Prix Niel at Longchamp in September. Lycitus will arrive at Woodbine on Wednesday.
Williams News, who is due to arrive at Woodbine from Kentucky on Tuesday, is the second of the American challengers. Trained by Tom Amoss, the Stars And Stripes Handicap (Gr.3) winner will be ridden on Sunday by Patrick Husbands.
Daliapour, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, has already arrived at Woodbine Racecourse after a flight from London on Friday.
The son of Sadler's Wells is looking to take the lead in the Emirates World Series and is already on seven points after finishing third in the second leg, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, and fourth in the Mercedes Benz Grosser Preis von Baden in September. Stoute has booked Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winning jockey to partner Daliapour in Sunday's race
Daliapour was joined on the flight to Canada by Mutafaweq, owned by the reigning World Champions Godolphin. The four-year-old son of Silver Hawk, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, will be partnered on Sunday by world champion jockey Frankie Dettori.
The next challenger from Europe to arrive will be the Mark Johnston-trained Murghem, who will be ridden by Darryll Holland.
Andreas Schutz, trainer of Samum who landed the fourth leg of the Emirates World Series - the Grosser Preis von Baden, will be represented in the Canadian International by Caitano, the mount of leading German jockey Andrasch Starke, who is currently on 12 Emirates World Series points.
Fruits Of Love, also from the Johnston stable, is highly unkiely to run after he was found to be sufferering from a blood disorder.

AYR THE ONLY CARD IN BRITAIN TODAY
Today's meeting at Ayr will be the only action in Britain today. The Scottish track survived an early inspection.
A spokesman for Ayr said: "Racing goes ahead. There was rain overnight but the course has taken it well. The going is heavy."
Meanwhile, the cards at both Leicester and Sedgfield have had to be abandoned due to waterlogging.
RAMSDENS RETURN
Jack Ramsden has stated that he and his wife Lynda are to return to Britain from France to resume their training operation.
The couple will train from their previous training base, Breckenbrough House near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. They plan to have a string of horses for the 2001 flat season.
Jack Ramsden said: "We've exchanged contracts and are hoping to complete on December 7. We'll be hoping to get organised from then.
"We're quite flexible about the time we actually move, although I expect Lynda will want to be there from early December, so that we can get some horses in."
